Water Management

Rainwater Harvesting For Drinking Water

Rain Water Harvesting is the main programme under this sector. To assure drinking water to all, harvesting the abundant rain water is the ideal mechanism. We have constructed thousands of Rain Water Harvesting systems in various parts of country as in state of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamilnadu

“Varsha” – Rainwater Harvesting Scheme: The project was undertaken by us under the aegis of Kerala Water Authority (KWA), Govt. of  Kerala envisaging construction of Ferro Cement Rain Water Harvesting Systems in the districts of Ernakulam, Alleppy, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta. Through this project we have covered more than 30,000 families. Introduction of a new technology in Government sector- Ferro Cement Technology- is one of the indirect advantages of the project. We have constructed Rain Water Harvesting Systems in more than 500 government institutions and schools. The largest single Rain Water System we have constructed is having 200000 ltr capacity.

Other water management programmes we implement are

  • WGDP (Western Ghatt Development Program),
  • NWDPRA (National Water Development Project under Rain Fed Areas)
  • RAINS (Rain Water Harvesting Awareness Implementation Network System), Jalanidhi of KRWSA under the world bank project.

Others

  • With State Department of Agriculture.
  • CWRDM, Kozhikode.
  • POPULARISATION OF RAIN WATER HARVESTING THROUGH CONSTRUCTION OF LOW COST FERROCEMENT TANKS FOR DRINKING WATER SUPPLY- 2000 to 2003 (UNDP) .
  • RWH Scheme for Central Prisons.
  • Augmentation of Decentralized Micro Water Supply Programme with World Bank through KRWSA, Jalanidhi Phase I and II
  • WELL RECHARGING CAMPAIGN.
  • Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP)

ASSESSMENT OF UTILITY OF RAIN WATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS

The Andhyodaya is conducted an evaluation of the utilization of constructed rain water harvesting systems by the people. The purpose behind the project was to ensure the cent percent use of the constructed systems by the people. We planned to provide them with further awareness generation programmes to enrich their water literacy and there by the maximum use of the constructed systems. The result of the evaluation was quite impressive that most of the people make optimum use of the available resources. We had a very good team to conduct the whole evaluation programme.
