Organic Waste Management

Organic Kitchen Waste Programme in Partnership with “Suchitwa Mission”

We join hands with “Suchitwa Mission” under the Local Self Government Department of Kerala Govt. The Andhyodaya has installed 3915 nos of portable FRP Bio Gas plants in the Districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kannur and Idukki in the years 2012 to 2018. The Biogas plants are having  PVC/LLDPE/HDPE tanks with water jacket in between the digester and the gas holder, inlet device with PVC pipe of diameter 110 mm, Inlet chambers with a FRP mug having circular shape and with a lid.  Outlet device with PVC pipe of 63 mm. A plastic can of 10 liter capacity to be used for collecting slurry for safe disposal.

Biogas Programme with Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF) –– 2018-19

In the year 2018-19 the Andhyodaya got an opportunity to be associated with KCMMF for implementing a biogas plant project in 2 scheduled cast colonies. We constructed 88 Bio Gas Plants of 2 m3 capacities each. The project is implemented in Pinavoorkudy sc colony of Ernakulam district (46 nos) and in Machiplavu sc colony of  Idukki district (42 nos).

VERMIN COMPOSTING

Vermicompost (vermi-compost, vermiculture) is the product of the decomposition process using various species of worms. Usually red wigglerswhite worms, and other earthworms are used to create a mixture of decomposing vegetable or food waste, bedding materials. Vermicast (also called worm castings, worm humus, worm manure, or worm feces) is the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by earthworms. These castings have been shown to contain reduced levels of contaminants and a higher saturation of nutrients than the organic materials before vermicomposting.

Vermicompost contains water-soluble nutrients and is an excellent, nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It is used in farming and small scale sustainable, organic farming.

The Andhyodaya has constructed more than 150 vermin composting units both with Terracotta and Ferro Cement technologies. This is a very low cost mechanism for organic waste management.

Waste Management is one of the major issues of today. It has been found that contageous diseases like Chicken Gunia, H1 N1, Dungie Fever etc. are caused by lack of proper Bio Waste Management. We are into this project to bring in awareness among the public and to give them working models of low cost and effective Bio Waste Management tools. Visit of Smt.Santa Sheela Nair IAS, Secretary, Department of Water Supply, Govt. of India

Andhyodaya Low Cost Portable Biogas Plants For Waste Management: The best way for an effective waste management is to treat the waste where it originates. Micro level approach is the best form for sustainable waste management. We developed a low cost Portable Biogas Plants for Organic Waste Management at the micro level. The plant can be placed either in the kitchen or work area. Space taken is only 3 square feet. through this biogas plant domestic organic waste generates cooking gas, nitrogen rich slurry and complete waste management.
